Join us for an evening of amorous and frivolous music exploring the torments and delights which spring from Love and Desire. Performed and curated by Matheus Coura (countertenor) and Jon Mendle (lute/guitar), Cupid's Fire features fiery and lovelorn airs by Elizabethan composers Thomas Campion (1567-1620) and John Dowland (1563-1626) as well as tunefully tender songs by Justin Holland (1819-1877) celebrated 19th century Black American guitarist and composer.
This will be an intimate salon style performance, curated in response to SLATE Contemporary Gallery's current exhibition, Historical Romance. Contemporary photographers, Carol Inez Charney, Christy Lee Rogers, and Carlos Gamez de Francisco, use historical painting as a jumping off point for creating contemporary photography that inspires awe and wonder.
Champagne and chocolate will be served along with a short discussion with the performers and gallery curator, Lucy Spencer.
